Welcoming Trainees from Programme on Global Public Health Talent
Fostering Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration

Our School had the pleasure of hosting 29 trainees from the Programme on Global Public Health Talent of the National Capacity Building Programme for Human Resources for Health in early March. The visit was coordinated by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and provided an opportunity for the trainees to engage with our faculty and learn about our World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Control and research initiatives.

The programme began with an introduction to our School by Professor David Bishai, the then School Director, Clinical Professor and Head of the Division of Health Economics, Policy and Management of our School. Professor Seto Wing-hong, Co-Director of the Collaborating Centre and Honorary Clinical Professor of our School, then provided an overview of the Centre, highlighting its role in advancing global health security.

Representatives from our School, including Professor Wu Peng, shared insights on research collaboration with the WHO, while Professor Hui-Ling Yen introduced the WHO Reference Laboratory, emphasising its contributions to pandemic preparedness and surveillance.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, followed by a tour of the WHO Reference Laboratory led by Professor Leo Poon, Daniel C K Yu Professor in Virology, Chair Professor of Public Health Virology and Head of the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences of our School. The tour offered the trainees first-hand exposure to the laboratory’s cutting-edge work.

We were delighted to welcome the trainees and foster exchange on global public health regulations and collaboration. We look forward to future partnerships and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
